Maine homeowners can now receive an additional $2,600 back in their income taxes when installing a heat pump in 2024.
$2,000 is available for the cost of heat pump installation(s)
$600 is available for the cost of a new circuit panel, if required
Learn more about the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Tax Credits here. Tax Credits equal 30% of the homeowner’s heat pump installation costs and can be claimed to cover the cost of the heat pump, installation labor, and more.

Statewide Heat Pump Rebates
Save up to $8,000 with Efficiency Maine Rebates with INSTANT REBATES
Thanks to you, we’ve rebated over 100,000 heat pumps in a state with only 600,000 homes. We’re leading the country. Today we’re announcing a shift in focus for our rebates from “partial-home” heat pumps to whole home heat pumps.
Highlights are:
- Rebate amounts are increasing:
- Low income – 80% up to $8,000 rebate (for participants in HEAP, SNAP, TANF, MaineCare)
- Moderate income – 60% up to $6,000 rebate (income-based, no longer property assessed value)
- Any income – 40% of project cost up to $4,000 rebate
- Heat pumps must be sized to meet at least 80% of the home’s peak heating load.
- Heat pumps must be single-zone and eligible for the tax credit under Section 25C of the Internal Revenue Code, made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act (no longer HSPF-based)
- All fossil fuel thermostats must be covered with lock boxes.
- These new rebates are available on projects completed on or after 9/18/2024. Our previous rebates are available on projects completed by 10/31/2024, or on projects with low- and moderate-income reservations made before 9/18/2024.
- Federal tax credits are available to support both partial-home and whole-home heat pumps for 30% of the project cost up $2,600.

Auburn Residents Can Double Their Efficiency Maine Rebate
with the City of Auburn’s Sustainable Auburn Matching Rebate Program

Rebates for this program are being made available through Auburn’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), a program created to provide funding to match Efficiency Maine rebates for Auburn residents. South Portland’s Electrify Everything! City Rebates ended as of July 31, 2024 after all funding being given out
